This past weekend, Rachel and I finally checked off Niagara Falls from our weekend trip list. Over the past year or so, we have managed to take three weekend trips, with Mount Washington and Washington DC being the previous two. Visiting Niagara Falls has been on our list for quite some time, so we were thrilled to finally make it happen. What made this trip even more exciting was that it was not planned until Wednesday the week before!

We drove up after work on Friday and arrived at our beautiful hotel with stunning view at around 2:30am. Despite it being late, Rachel sleeping majority of the way, and there being absolutely no street lights in upper New York, we made it in safely. Even in the middle of the night, we could tell that we were in for a fun weekend. We traveled to the Canadian side of the falls and although it being very late, customs was quite a breeze!

On Saturday, the weather was not in our favor, with a steady rainfall throughout the day and cold temperatures. However, this did not dampen our spirits, we decided to make the most of it and tell ourselves that this is Canadian weather! We kicked off the day with a visit to the Journey Behind the Falls. Descending 125 feet into the bedrock, being so close to the falls was an incredible experience. Feeling the mist and spray of the falls on our faces while being in caves behind it was truly exhilarating. Later on, we took the Niagara on the Lake Cruise, and the stunning views of the falls that we saw from above got even better as we got up close and personal while on the boat. The boat was a double decker with indoor space and windows to view out of. However, Rachel and I put our ponchos to the test and were the only people who viewed the falls from outside. It was a great way to experience the beauty of the falls from a different perspective.

Saturday night, we enjoyed dinner on the 33rd floor of a local restaurant, and the views were truly incredible. We watched the sun set over the falls, saw a full, end-to-end rainbow and enjoyed a delicious meal. After dinner, we stopped by a local bar to watch the UConn game and then visited the casino afterwards.

The next morning, we ordered room service for breakfast, ate looking out our window and packed up to go home. Thankfully, we encountered absolutely no traffic on the way back, which was a great end to a great weekend. There was a very happy dog waiting for us when we got home as well.

Overall, our weekend trip to Niagara Falls was an incredible experience. Visiting the falls has been on our list for some time, and we’re so glad we finally made it happen, even on short notice!
