The American Dream: Homeownership

Becoming a homeowner has been quite the ride for Rachel and I. We've been knee-deep in renovations, relying heavily on the support of our loved ones, and even had to tackle a snowstorm. Through it all, our dog Mason has been taking everything in stride, proving to be the ultimate companion.

Deciding to buy a home was both thrilling and daunting. We were excited about the prospect of making a space our own, but we quickly learned that it takes a lot of work to turn a house into a home. Weekday nights and weekends were consumed by painting, tearing down walls, building a closet, updating fixtures and much more. With each project completed, our vision for the house is starting to take shape, turning it into a place we could truly call ours.

Fortunately, we haven't been doing it all alone. Our parents and siblings have been there every step of the way, offering their help and expertise. Whether it was painting a room, putting together furniture or helping me move things around, they were always willing to lend a hand. Their support turned what could have been a stressful experience for two people, into a bonding opportunity which was quite fun!

Just when we thought we had everything under control, Mother Nature decided to throw us a curveball with an unexpected snowstorm. Clearing the driveway became a priority, and armed with a snow blower, I set out to tackle the task. It was hard work, but with each pass of the machine, I felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that I was making progress and this is the beauty of home ownership.

Through it all, Mason has been our constant companion. Whether he's exploring the backyard or snuggled up in our new mattress, he's taken the changes in stride, reminding us to appreciate the simple things in life, like his peanut butter filled bones or his daily greenie.

As we settle into our new home, we're grateful for the journey that has brought us here and our parents for supporting the both of us for the past 25 years. It hasn't always been easy, but it's been worth it. Homeownership isn't just about having a place to live; it's about creating a space where memories are made and shared.
