Thomas Morrone CFP®, CPA

Founder

I grew up in a family business and at an early age I learned the importance of hard work, exemplary service and the value of relationships. After college and about 15 years of working for big companies, I had the entrepreneurial desire to utilize my knowledge and experience in financial matters to help people figure out the story behind their numbers.

In 1995, I could have never imagined that the small accounting firm that I founded could grow into a multi-generational family business focused on wealth management. The business and my role in it has evolved over time, and I continue to serve as the firm Principal of our office. My son, Paul, now leads the advisory team and financial planning efforts, supported by my 40 years of business experience and the invaluable business partners that we have established relationships with. As the business climate and industry has changed over time, we have continued to adapt to meet the changing needs of those that we serve. Clients appreciate the diligence and care we take to understand all facets of their financial lives. This enables us to coordinate the services of their entire advisory team to help meet their planning needs.

When not working with clients, I enjoy spending time with my best friend and wife Cathy enjoying a glass of fine wine. We love spending time with our son, Paul, and daughter, Kelly, along with their wonderful spouses Jill and David. Being the head landscaper at Villa Morrone brings me relaxation and I enjoy kayaking around the Branford shoreline. I can also be found around the grounds of New Haven Country Club, chasing around little white balls with Paul, and hopefully someday my grandsons.

Paul Morrone CFP®, CPA/PFS, MSA

Wealth Manager

As the second-generation owner of US Wealth Management New Haven, I’m honored to have to opportunity to continue the business that my father, Tom, founded in the mid-1990s. Under his mentorship, I’ve learned the invaluable lessons of how to earn trust, work collaboratively and remain disciplined over time in pursuit of positive outcomes. I’m passionate about the work that we do here, and it is incredibly satisfying to witness the lasting impact it has on our clients, their families and loved ones.

Early in my career, however, there was no guarantee that I was going to follow in my father’s footsteps. After graduating from Bentley University in 2009, I spent my first professional days working at KPMG, one of the ‘big four’ public accounting firms. It was there that I earned my CPA license and developed a respect for complexity of financial reporting and the scale required to run some of the world’s largest businesses. I’m fortunate to have such broad experience, which I believe is key to connecting with the network of other professionals that are often part of a comprehensive advisory team. Ultimately, I made the difficult choice to leave my rapidly advancing career in accounting for what was largely an unknown path in the wealth management industry. That was in 2011, and I haven’t looked back.

I have been able to draw on the decades of wisdom provided by my mentors over the years, many of whom have supported me since day one. As a result, I strongly believe in giving back to the financial planning community that has been so influential in my professional development. The past several years, I’ve held various leadership roles within the Financial Planning Association of CT where we strive to shape the future of the profession and encourage practitioners to hold themselves to the highest standards.

Outside of the office, my wife, Jill, has the impossible task of trying to slow me down. She has been nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital for over a decade and is one of the hardest working and most passionate people I know. In addition to being an amazing nurse, she is also the mother of our two boys – Kyle (2018) and Ryan (2020) – who bring a smile to my face every day. We are blessed with an amazing network of family and friends that dominate most of our social calendar, a problem I am happy to have. Since we met, Jill and I have been avid travelers and are fortunate enough to have visited some of the most exciting and exotic places on earth. Picking a favorite is tough, although both of us have a special place in our heart for all the beauty, food and wine that Italy has to offer.

In my spare time, I can be found driving just about anything with a motor on the road or track. I’m also engaged in the perpetual battle against my handicap on the golf course, which is one of the most humbling, exciting, and frustrating experiences one can have. On those rainy or snowy weekends, I enjoy catching up on some of my favorite sports, including golf, Formula 1, UCONN Huskies Basketball and, of course, New York Giants football.

Preston Young MBA

Financial Planning Assistant

Growing up in North Haven, it never occurred to me that I would one day be working right on the town green that I’ve walked through so many times. Although I was born in Toledo, Ohio, I moved to North Haven when I was three and still live here today and consider it my home. Like Paul, I am also a product of the North Haven school system where I played basketball and baseball. This valuable experience taught me how to work with others to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. During my college career at Southern Connecticut State University, I earned my bachelor’s degree in finance and masters degree in business administration.

I’ve always enjoyed working with people and helping them through both good and bad times. In addition to my engagement in various athletic programs, I also volunteered at Benhaven where I had the pleasure of working with individuals and families living with autism and other spectrum disorders. This was a moving experience that allowed me to learn how to connect with people on a deeper level. I was responsible for tutoring, mentoring and caring for an individual with severe speech impairments. Throughout the process I was even able to learn some basic sign language to help us communicate better.

In my free time, my girlfriend Rachel and I have our hands full with our dog, Mason. Mason is a spoiled, loving, and outgoing Aussiedoodle who will do just about anything for another treat. He loves to join us on top-down jeep adventures, relaxing boat rides on Candlewood Lake and long walks on Hammonasset Beach. Our summers are often packed with ice cream, weekend trips, swimming, boating and nights by the fire. Rachel and I are avid food lovers, and big food critics. During our many years together, we have dined at countless restaurants and try our best not to repeat any – other than our absolute favorites! If travel is in the cards, we will likely find ourselves living out our inner child at Disney World which has become an annual family getaway each January. It’s hard to explain, but there is something so magical about walking into the parks and feeling like a kid again.

I am also a lifelong Red Sox fan and make the pilgrimage to Fenway Park multiple times a year to catch a game with family or friends. During the fall and winter months, my Sunday’s are filled with football and wings rooting for the Green Bay Packers.

In my spare time, I have devoted countless hours to tinkering and modifying my ‘99 Jeep Wrangler. It is a constant project that will never be fully complete because I love the challenge of seeing what could be made better. Of course, there is always the time spent troubleshooting issues to keep it running perfectly which makes it reliable in the winter months and enjoyable in the summer months with the top off. I have put countless hours into the project and have even repainted it from top to bottom. There are imperfections, but something I am proud of and hope lasts a long time.
